Los Robles MRI Suite

Shaffer Building Co. completed a $1.9M MRI suite build-out for Los Robles Regional Medical Center, working alongside HKS Architects to deliver a fully functional imaging environment within an active hospital campus. The scope required precise coordination across structural, mechanical, and electrical trades to meet the stringent requirements of MRI installation, including RF shielding, vibration isolation, and reinforced flooring capable of supporting the equipment’s substantial weight. Delivery and rigging of the MRI unit itself demanded careful logistics planning given the facility’s operational & accessability constraints.

Shaffer self-performed all framing, drywall, and concrete work on the project, maintaining direct quality control over the critical envelope that forms the MRI suite’s shielded enclosure. The framing and insulation detailing visible during construction reflect the specialized wall assemblies required to prevent electromagnetic interference, while the below-floor mechanical rough-in accommodated the complex utility demands of modern imaging equipment. The project was completed in 2025 with the suite fully operational and integrated into the medical center’s diagnostic workflow.
