Los Robles – MRI Preconstruction

Shaffer Building Co. is providing preconstruction services for a $1.2M remodel and upgrade of the existing MRI suite at Los Robles Regional Medical Center, designed by John Douglas Thomson. The scope includes constructability review, estimating, and project scheduling for a renovation that will modernize the current imaging environment while working around an operational MRI program. The floor plan, with the project area outlined in red, shows the full extent of the renovation zone encompassing the scan room, control room, patient prep and recovery areas, and supporting mechanical spaces.

The existing suite, requires upgrades to accommodate newer imaging technology and updated patient flow standards while maintaining the specialized shielding and environmental controls that MRI operations demand. Renovating an existing MRI suite within a functioning hospital presents distinct challenges compared to new construction, since the work must be carefully phased to minimize downtime on equipment that generates significant diagnostic revenue and supports surgical planning. Shaffer’s ongoing relationship with Los Robles across multiple imaging and infrastructure projects positions the firm to coordinate this renovation efficiently within the broader context of the campus’s capital improvement program.
