Los Robles – AHU 13

Shaffer Building Co. provided preconstruction & construction services for a $160,000 AHU 13 upgrade and blood lab constant air volume (CAV) replacement project at Los Robles Regional Medical Center, with WSP serving as the mechanical engineer of record. Shaffer’s scope included constructability review, estimating, and project scheduling, helping the owner and design team identify potential coordination conflicts and develop a realistic execution plan before committing to construction. The mechanical plan highlights the complexity of reworking HVAC distribution within occupied hospital spaces where air quality, pressure relationships, and temperature control are continuously regulated.

The project addressed aging air handling infrastructure and outdated CAV terminals serving the blood lab, where precise environmental controls are essential for specimen integrity and regulatory compliance. The before-and-after control panel photos illustrate the scope of the controls upgrade, replacing legacy pneumatic and analog components with updated wiring and instrumentation.
